Design Philosophy

The key to our approach to design is in the understanding and expression of the ways people relate to space. The manner in which people will inhabit and use the spaces we make serves as our inspiration, starting point and measure of success.

We believe that each new project necessitates a unique and specific strategy. Our process consists of a crafting of context from multiple conditions—both existent and possible—brought into relationship with each other. Occupants’ spatial understandings, technological potentials, influences of surrounding histories and characteristics of the site enter into an evolving interaction initiated in the earliest phases of the project.

Communication is crucial to realizing our intentions. We work to manage and inspire the entire design team and interpret goals and strategies with the Client.

Cee Architects was established in 1994 and currently comprises a staff of architects and designers with offices in San Francisco and Oakland. Our in-house capabilities range from programming and design to detailing, construction documents, construction observation and construction management services. Principal Jane Cee is a licensed architect who has been involved in the design and making of residential and commercial architecture, spatial environments and furniture for 20 years. Prior to founding Cee Architects, she worked as Senior Designer, Project Designer, and Project Architect with several internationally recognized architecture and design firms in and around the Bay Area. These include Holt Hinshaw Pfau Jones, The Burdick Group and, KobeOu Associates (now Eight Inc.).
