Born in Los Angeles, CA in 1957, and educated at the University of California at Santa Barbara where he received a B.A. in Studio Art. In 1985 he received his Masters in Architecture, graduating first in his class at the Southern California Institute of Architecture (SCI-ARC).

During Robin’s education at SCI-ARC, he began his work with Morphosis Architects assuming Project Architect responsibilities on AIA award winning and internationally recognized commercial, institutional, and residential projects. He also lived, studied and worked in Switzerland during this period. Following his work with Morphosis, Robin opened his own practice in 1989.

S+D is led by partners Russell Shubin and Robin Donaldson. Russell and Robin are both licensed Architects and always collaborate on project strategy and other key aspects of project design and execution. With offices in both Culver City, CA and Santa Barbara, CA projects are organized as a team effort, with an assigned project manager and project architect. The office is staffed with architects, draftsmen, web designers, computer modelers, and renderers.

S+D considers itself not just an architectural firm, but a high tech creative company with a creative studio atmosphere where creative experimentation is encouraged, while maintaining a pragmatic budget and schedule discipline necessary to effectively work with other businesses.
