Description
Architect: Morphosis
The headquarters of California’s Department of Transportation comprises a sleek 10-storey, 50,000ft2 office tower rising from a three-storey podium, with four levels below grade. Arup’s contributions to the $171m Morphosis-designed building helped the building reduce energy consumption substantially.
One of theLEED® Silver-certified building’s outstanding features is an electricity-generating building envelope. Using building-integratedphotovoltaics, we added a second layer of vision glass panels at the south façade to harvest energy from sunlight. Along the east and west façades we used an exterior scrim skin that mitigates solar gain and helps filter unconditioned air.
Our scope included mechanical, electrical, plumbing, façade and building physics engineering, along with sustainability consulting and information technology and communication consulting.
