wHY Architecture's work includes many innovative architectural designs for people, the arts and the environment. The Grand Rapids Art Museum is the first new art museum in the world to receive the LEED certification. wHY Architecture has been working on design for the new Tyler Museum of Art, Texas
as well as the expansion and renovation of the Speed Art Museum in Louisville, Kentucky and is in the process of renovating the galleries at the Art Institute of Chicago. Community projects include the renovation of the historic Venice Jail into the Social & Public Art Resource Center in Venice, California and the Art Bridge at the Los Angeles River. Currently awaiting groundbreaking, this bridge shall be built from trash salvaged from the LA River it spans. Recent projects also include Private residences, Art Galleries, Boutique retail, and Day Spas.
Partners at wHY Architecture include Kulapat Yantrasast, Yo-ichiro Hakomori and Richard Stoner. Kulapat, a native of Thailand, received his Master of Architecture degree and Ph.D. from the University of Tokyo. Yo-ichiro received his Master of Architecture degree from the University of California, Los Angeles, and his Doctorate from the University of Tokyo. Richard received his Bachelor of Arts from Rhode Island School of Design and Master of Architecture from the University of California, Los Angeles. They continue to lecture and teach at universities around the country and worldwide, Kulapat has also served on the Artist Committee for American for the Arts, the nation's oldest organization for the support of art in society.
As a workshop for creativity in design and construction, wHY Architecture brings their teamwork approach to all projects and injects new ideas and strategies in architecture so that it is executed with the highest degree of quality and intelligence in construction.
