Birch Residence

 Zurück zur Projektliste

The Birch Residence reimagines the typical Los Angeles, postwar tract house to be light-filled and open to the entire site. From the entry forecourt an unexpected and over-scaled curved wall extends through the length of the home, above which winds a 52-foot sky-light, tracking the sun throughout the day. A sunshade of prismatic, polycarbonate panels creates a semi-shaded condition, lighting the interior with diffused reflections and refractions. Translating the sun’s movement and intensity, delicate shifts in light, create subtle varying qualities of space, and connect the residence to seasonal environment cycles.
