Darin Johnstone, AIA
A member of the Sci-Arc design faculty since 2002, established djA (darin johnstone architecture) in 2004 from a trajectory initiated by Johnstone Parker Architecture. (1999-2004) Darin is a founding member of the architectural design collaborative FLUX founded in 1999 and featured in Arc Record II in January 2006. Both the djA practice and FLUX collaborative continue to engage Architecture as an overarching discipline accepting a wide range of design challenges including: urban planning, landscape design, interior design, furniture design, graphic design, web design, and complex computer visualization projects.
Darin's work has been published in Architectural Record, LA Architect, Metalocus, 306090, and Surface magazine among others. In 2006 LA Architect featured djA as one of the "10 to watch" in Los Angeles. Darin has received various awards, most recently an AIA Los Angeles Honor Award in the installation category. Darin received his Bachelor of Architecture from California State Polytechnic University of Pomona in 1993 and a Master of Science in Advanced Architectural Design from Columbia University in 1995.
From 1999-2002 Darin was a part time design instructor in the Architecture department at California State Polytechnic University of Pomona, and from 2000-2002 served as Resident Director of the Richard and Dion Neutra VDL Research House II. Darin obtained professional experience and technical training in the offices of Holt Hinshaw Architects in San Francisco, Geatano Pesce in NYC, and Frank O Gehry and coopHimmelb(L)au, in Los Angeles.
