New Orleans

Built in the 1920s, the Camp Street Residence is a two-story 1,200 SF home in the heart of the New Orleans Uptown neighborhood. The program initially began with the renovation of a simple deck, which evolved into a second floor addition housing a new master suite to include a bedroom, bathroom, and closet. The design reduced massing of the addition to its purest form, continuing the lines of the existing roof and removing the ceiling to create a single space with maximum height. Dividing the addition, the design sites the master ensuite with integrated full height northern facing windows on one side of the diagrammatic volume, with the striated shaded balcony on the other. Capitalizing on northern light, the back façade creates a duality of traditional New Orleans architecture against the reductive modern rear elevation, exemplifying our typical lifestyle of today.
