Artists Guest House

Determined to be an architect from the age of five years old, Alex studied and practiced as an architect, creating structures large and small for many years before turning to his greater passion of photography. Now sculpting with light, texture, volume and form, Alex regularly collaborates directly with some of the world’s most renowned architects, designers and publications, ranging from the subjects of architecture/urban environments, design and portraiture. Endlessly curious, Alex draws inspiration from the poetic play of illuminations dancing across the architectural surfaces. Alex combines patience, planning and anticipation when designing his architectural shoots, while always allowing for serendipity and chance to fuse into that magic moment when it all comes together.

Alex’s photographs have been the recipient of numerous prestigious awards and have been exhibited internationally in galleries and Museums. His images reside in numerous private, public and corporate collections, including the Art Institute of Chicago, Museum of Contemporary Photography (Chicago), Museum of the City of New York, Portland Art Museum, among others. Alex is now in the process of publishing his third book of his work, titled FOGO: Architecture of an Island to be published by Monacelli Press in NY. Alex is now teaching architectural photography at the International Center for Photography in Manhattan.
